Kibale Forest National Park, often referred to as the primate capital of the world, shelters over 13 primate species including an estimated 1,500 chimpanzees. Alongside world-class tracking experiences, you’ll engage in guided wetland walks, visit local communities, and walk crater lakes to gain an enriched understanding of this region’s ecological and cultural landscape. Your guide from Nomad Touring Company Ltd will meet you early at Entebbe International Airport or your hotel. Embark on a scenic drive westwards through Uganda’s lush countryside to Kibale Forest National Park — the most reliable destination in East Africa for tracking wild chimpanzees. This six-and-a-half-hour journey will offer glimpses into rural life as you traverse papyrus swamps, tea plantations, and roadside towns.
Pause in Fort Portal for a relaxing lunch before continuing into the highland forest region. Arrive at Chimpanzee Forest Guesthouse, a charming eco-lodge nestled in the forest edge, ideal for spotting monkeys and forest birds even from your balcony. Enjoy dinner as you settle into the cool tranquility of the forest.

After breakfast, transfer to Kanyanchu Visitor Center for a safety briefing before entering the forest for chimpanzee tracking. Led by an expert ranger-guide, your hike through the jungle will bring you up close to one of our closest genetic relatives. With a 98% success rate of sightings, you’ll observe social behaviors such as grooming, feeding, and vocal interactions.
The forest teems with other primates such as the grey-cheeked mangabey, red-tailed monkey, and L’Hoest's monkey. After a rewarding encounter, return to your lodge for a fresh lunch.
In the afternoon, you’ll head to Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary, a community-run conservation initiative rich in biodiversity. Your guide will lead you through a boardwalk and forested trail, spotting wetland birds like the Great Blue Turaco and elusive Papyrus Gonolek. Return to the lodge for a warm evening meal and overnight stay.

After a relaxed breakfast, you’ll go on a guided crater lake walk, exploring local tea and banana farms and hiking to panoramic viewpoints known as the “Top of the World.” Interact with community members to learn about sustainable livelihoods and cultural practices. Your guide will highlight the importance of local stewardship in chimpanzee conservation and ecotourism.
Return to the guesthouse to freshen up and prepare for your journey back to Entebbe or Kampala. Along the way, enjoy a final look at Uganda’s verdant landscapes. Optional drop-off in Kampala is available at a minimal fee. Arrival is expected in the evening — marking the end of your enriching primate conservation safari.
