Unlike Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya is less crowded and more diverse, with glaciers, rugged peaks, Afro-alpine vegetation, and dramatic scenery. This 6-day climbing expedition follows the Sirimon–Chogoria Route, widely regarded as the most scenic ascent and descent combination.
Designed for adventure seekers, this trek offers a true mountaineering experience, combining physical challenge with breathtaking views. The main objective is to summit Point Lenana (4,985m), the highest trekking peak on Mount Kenya, with professional guides ensuring safety and success.
Itinerary
Pickup from Nairobi and drive to Nanyuki (approx. 4–5 hrs).
Briefing, gear check, and acclimatization walk.
Overnight in Nanyuki hotel.
Transfer to Sirimon Park Gate (2,650m).
Begin trek through montane forest and bamboo zones.
Gentle hike to Old Moses Camp (3,300m).
Trekking time: 3–4 hrs.
Overnight at Old Moses Camp.
Trek across the moorland and high-altitude zone.
Pass Mackinder Valley with views of Batian and Nelion peaks.
Arrival at Shipton’s Camp (4,200m).
Trekking time: 6–7 hrs.
Overnight at Shipton’s Camp.
Light hikes around Shipton’s for acclimatization.
Optional trek to nearby ridges for photography and altitude adjustment.
Rest and prepare for summit attempt.
Overnight at Shipton’s Camp.
Early morning (2:30 AM) summit attempt.
Climb through scree and rocky terrain to reach Point Lenana (4,985m) by sunrise.
Panoramic views of peaks Batian and Nelion, plus Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day.
Descend via Chogoria route to Mintos Hut (4,300m).
Trekking time: 8–10 hrs.
Overnight at Mintos Camp.
Trek down through Gorges Valley and the beautiful highland forest.
Exit at Chogoria Gate (2,950m).
Pickup and drive back to Nairobi.
